Update 4/28: Players are reporting that Days Gone Patch 1.05 has also not fixed this issue.

Original story follows.

The Days Gone release date was just yesterday, but players and critics with early access to the title have been reportedly encountering audio glitches and sound bugs in Bend Studio’s new open-world zombie game. While Days Gone Patch 1.04 launched a day before the official release with the promise of “bug fixes,” continued reports from fans indicate that the audio bug was not one addressed by the update.

Specifically, the Days Gone audio bug is causing environmental sounds to be completely absent from the game. This means that some players are finding that, at times, they cannot hear any ambient noise or sound effects from Deacon’s motorcycle or the looming Days Gone Freaker horde. Beyond being a slight irritation, the Days Gone sound glitch has real gameplay implications as well, turning Freakers into silent killers.

With Patch 1.04, some players may have expected the Days Gone audio glitch to be addressed. The patch notes were indeed vague, only listing the aforementioned “bug fixes” alongside “localization updates,” which certainly left a bit to the imagination. However, new bug reports from players suggest that the Days Gone audio bug remains.

These reports can be found on the Days Gone subreddit, in a thread asking for Patch 1.04 bug reports. The most upvoted report in this thread is one detailing the Days Gone sound glitch, noting that all sound effects and ambient sounds are missing, while dialogue and music are still audible. This report is echoed by a number of other players encountering the same issue.

Additionally, fans in the thread discuss if a fresh Days Gone install can prevent the audio bug from occurring. The consensus seems to be that it can not, though there is one workaround for the issue.

Namely, players that are encountering the Days Gone audio bug are advised to exit the game and restart it. While this may not be the most elegant of solutions, many will certainly find the hassle preferable to playing the game with bugged sound.

Currently, the developers have not provided any official word on the Days Gone sound glitch or when it will be corrected. As such, after numerous Days Gone release date delays, players will need to have a little more patience, and use the fix detailed above, for the time being.

Days Gone is available now for the PlayStation 4.
