Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes smashed its Kickstarter goal of $500,000 in 2020, eventually going on to raise over $4 million, and as part of its stretch goals Rabbit & Bear Studios announced that the game would receive a companion game with the working title “A Quiet Place.” This was the last of the game’s stretch goals, and during Xbox’s E3 2021 showcase, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising was revealed to be a 2.5D action-JRPG with town-building elements. The game uses an HD-2D art style similar to Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, and centers around a group of characters that will appear in the main game.

During the Xbox E3 conference, it was revealed that Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising along with the main game Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes will both come to Xbox Game Pass at launch on Microsoft’s platforms. This is one of the few deals Microsoft has struck with indie Japanese studios for Xbox Game Pass, and fans can look forward to getting the main Eiyuden Chronicle game on Game Pass after trying its prequel on May 10. Rabbit & Bear Studio announced on Twitter that the prequel is set to also come to PlayStation consoles, PC, and Switch on the same day.

Suikoden fans thankfully won’t have to wait long to finally get their hands on Eiyuden Chronicles, and Rising’s position as a prequel makes it an excellent starting point for newcomers who never tried Konami’s cult classic JRPG series. In this way, the game coming to Xbox Game Pass begins to make a lot of sense, especially given the lack of JRPGs coming to the platform these days compared to the Xbox 360 era.

Rabbit & Bear Studio has also reconfirmed that Hundred Heroes will arrive in 2023, implying that Rising’s development has not slowed progression on the main game that fans backed on Kickstarter almost two years ago.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising will release on May 10 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
