Having been extremely successful in its beta stage, with the open beta player count reaching upwards of 2 million players, Dauntless takes multiple notes from Capcom’s Monster Hunter series. It is conceptually similar to Monster Hunter in that it features cooperative online play and has players taking down ominous beasts, referred to as Behemoths, in brutal combat. Although, Dauntless does set itself apart in various ways, including its free-to-play model and cartoonish art style. Featuring a wide array of weapons, armor, and locations, Dauntless seems to be preparing to officially enter the growing arena of the monster hunting genre.
In addition to the release of the base game, the Season 5 Hunt Pass, will also be releasing May 21. Furthermore, recent tweaks that had been made to gameplay during the game’s open beta will be implemented upon the full release, as well as patches and features that have been added to Dauntless along the way. The Arcslayer Pack will be available next week too, which adds armor and other items to assist players in their cooperative, or solo, monster hunting efforts.
Dauntless is also said to be coming to Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in the future, though there is no known date at the moment. Similarly, cross-play support for Dauntless is being worked on currently so that gamers can play cooperatively across all platforms.
For anyone who enjoyed the open beta, this is no doubt wonderful news. On another note, it will be interesting to see how Dauntless works out in the long run as a free-to-play model. Hopefully, it will continue to attract following its official release.
Dauntless is set for release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 21, 2019.
